At present two seaside areas of Sihanoukville and Koh Kong, on the Gulf of Thailand will reopen.
On arrival, tourists should show proof of vaccination and also take rapid antigen test, if results turn negative they can proceed exploring without quarantine.
Siem Reap province, home to the famous Angkor temples, is to be added to the quarantine-free province list in January.
If the programme is proven successful, other destinations will be added. With the entire country opening up for travel once the coronavirus is under the control.
In 2019 alone, Cambodia received 6.6 million foreigners who accounted for nearly $5 billion in revenue, and most of them visited Angkor and seaside destinations, according to the Tourism Ministry. This was during the pre-pandemic period.
In 2020 the visitors dropped to a sharp 1.3 million thus plunging the tourism-related earnings to about $1 Billion.
