Amid vaccine rollout all across the world, Thailand is now offering Coronavirus vaccine tours to the US as some of the wealthy Thais grew impatient awaiting mass vaccinations which is still a month ahead amid the rise of coronavirus cases in Thailand.
These coronavirus vaccine tours reflect stark differences in vaccination rollout as wealthy countries like Canada, the US, and the UK have made swift immunization gains however lower-income countries are yet to receive the global vaccine rollouts however, well-off secured citizens are securing coronavirus doses.
Unithai Trip, a tour operator in Bangkok has packages ranging from 75,000 THB to 200,000 THB for tours to San Francisco, New York, and Los Angeles depending upon the time gap between the doses.
Rachphol Yamsaeng, owner of the tour agency said, “Johnson & Johnson is one jab, but 90% of inquires want Pfizer,” Pfizer vaccine needs about 20 days between first and second doses.
Another tour operator, My Johnson Travel is offering 10 days trip to San Francisco for a J&J vaccine shot and has already received hundreds of calls.
With this new tourism method, vaccine travel could be a boom to the ailing Thailand Travel sector which has collapsed since the pandemic.
“All tour agencies are suffering now,” said Rachapol, whose agency is also offering similar trips to Serbia. “Whatever we can do, we have to try to do it.”
The US is not only the destination for rich Thai people for vaccination travel as another agency also advertised VACCation in Russia to receive ‘Sputnik V’ vaccine which the tour agency is charging around 210,000 THB.
Thailand on the other hand is set to begin a vaccination drive from June onwards with locally manufactured AstraZeneca shots.
