What names do you hear when you think about the country of Italy? Milan, Venice, Rome etc
Although visiting these regions provides you with a better understanding of history, culture, fashion etc these are some of the places which are visited by many tourists all year long so you might have to bear with traffic, long queues and crowds.
However, some of the places in Italy are little to less explored which do come with similar charms yet are visited by quite a few tourists every year.
So much so, that these tourist destinations are now out and beyond to welcome tourists that they are offering free trains, free public transportation and discounts on attractions.
One such destination is the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region tucked beside Austria and Slovenia region is now offering free train fares plus extra complimentary perks as a bid to encourage travellers to explore the wonders of the region.
These perks include the Dolomite mountains, golden coasts and sprawling vineyards until 31 May 2023.
Tourists visiting the towns of Trieste, Udine, Grado and Lignano Sabbiadoro are entitled to get a refund of train tickets noted the local tourism board.
The initiative also includes a complimentary FGVcard valid for 48 hours where travellers can enjoy free or discounted access to public transport alongside attractions, museums, guided tours to historical sites, and exhibitions like Banksy’s in Salone deli Incanti (open 25 November to 10 April 2023) and more.
Trieste, a border town carved between Slovenia and Italy, and Udine, has a perfectly restored old town, where travellers can marvel at the roman relics or even book a wine-tasting tour. Along the Adriatic Sea, Lignano Sabbiadoro is home to some gorgeous Italian beaches, Grado on the other hand is a quiet version of Venice due to the canals that run along the quaint seaside village.
To receive these benefits, there are certain conditions which include:
- Bookings are only to be made on turismofvg.it/trenitalia
- Visitors must stay a minimum of two nights in Friuli-Venezia Giulia in any participating hotel, holiday apartment or B&B.
- Visitors must purchase return tickets departing from within Italy and arriving at any of the five stations via the Trenitalia line (Latisana-Lignano-Bibione, Cervignano-Aquileia-Grado, Trieste Airport, Trieste Centrale, or Udine).
Also, to be noted is that the reservations must be made no later than five days before departure and the cost of accommodation is not discounted nor are first-class train tickets.
Additionally, Christmas, Easter and Italian bank holidays are considered black-out days where the offers will not be applicable.
