Yes, travel to a new place sounds interesting but preplanning the travel is not a good idea before you step your foot to a new place. Try to note down some of the important places to visit while you travel and the rest you will get to know once you reach the destination.

I did the mistake for the first trip where I had pre-booked my place of stay and transportation and also places to visit, however, when I reached the destination I got to know a major event happening one evening and my bus was supposed to departure that same afternoon. I regretted my decision of pre-booking the bus and it spoilt my chance to witness a grand event which every resident look forward to.
Hence, try to note down some places to visit, however, do not pre-book as you will get many unplanned events coming up to you when you visit the location. Also, being a touristic place, there will not be any dearth of transportation which you can ask local tour guide or hotel/hostel receptionist to arrange transportation for the next day which they would be happy to help.
