One of the quickest ways to travel in a new location is Taxis. Private, comfortable, and easier way to reach the destination, taxis are preferred for people who want to reach a new location quicker.

Although, taxis are costly than public transportation such as buses, tram, metro they are still prevalent at a location due to its help. They help tourists carry larger luggage, provide relief from the heat (A/c Taxis), and provides private transportation against a person boarding the bus or any other public transportation.

However, many US, European nations have Uber, Lyft, or any other cab aggregators for easy assistance. Some of the touristic locations try to fraud tourists by providing alternative unregistered taxis which might be a scam. In some places, it is so hard to differentiate between registered and unregistered taxis because both of them have the ‘TAXI’ Sign’.

These private taxis can mug a tourist and as a tourist is new to the location, I would not recommend boarding any unknown taxis as you might have a bad implication later.

The safest option is to use the registered taxis or you can call your hotel, hostel, or the restaurant for the suggestion of a taxi to be booked as they would be trusted ones and you would be safe to board. They might be a bit costly however safer than the unregistered ones.

Alternatively, Uber, Lyft, Ola (India), BlueBird (Indonesia), Grab (many SE countries) are preferred as they are from reputed companies and can provide immediate assistance.

Additionally, they send driver details with car number which can act as a proof if you get into trouble and thus as a traveler you need to be very careful on this matter.

At last, we don’t say that you should never use or always use taxis for traveling as other public transportation also provides the same but with multiple stops and cheaper price.
